Baby Gender

The Americans believed that you could tell a baby's sex through a few tests:

If a mother's feet are colder when she's pregnant, it's a boy; if her feet are warmer, it's a girl.
If a mother's urine is bright yellow, it's a boy.
If a coin is dropped between a mother's breasts and it falls to the left side, it's a girl; if it falls to the right side, it's a girl.
If a mother drops a knife, it's a boy; if she drops scissors, it's a girl.

Health & Beauty

A mother should avoid taking baths to prevent germs from swimming up her vagina and affecting the baby.
Horse chestnuts or potatoes carried in a mother's trouser pockets are good for piles.
Fitter women have easier and quicker labours.
If your mother had an easy pregnancy, you will too.
If your mother never lost weight after pregnancy, you won't either.
If your mother got stretch marks, you will too.
If your mother had big babies, you will too.
