American Baby Superstitions
Straight from the mouths of old wives from the United States, here are the American baby superstitions.
Baby Gender
The Americans believed that you could tell a baby's sex through a few tests:
- If a mother's feet are colder when she's pregnant, it's a boy; if her feet are warmer, it's a girl.
- If a mother's urine is bright yellow, it's a boy.
- If a coin is dropped between a mother's breasts and it falls to the left side, it's a girl; if it falls to the right side, it's a girl.
- If a mother drops a knife, it's a boy; if she drops scissors, it's a girl.
Health & Beauty
- A mother should avoid taking baths to prevent germs from swimming up her vagina and affecting the baby.
- Horse chestnuts or potatoes carried in a mother's trouser pockets are good for piles.
- Fitter women have easier and quicker labours.
- If your mother had an easy pregnancy, you will too.
- If your mother never lost weight after pregnancy, you won't either.
- If your mother got stretch marks, you will too.
- If your mother had big babies, you will too.
